Home Made Lovely- Katy’s Home Tour

I’m so excited that you’re here today!!
I’ve been scheming for a little while now to pull
this together and I can’t wait to share it with you..
Welcome to the first edition of Home Made Lovely!
A new weekly series featuring inspiring homes from around the
blogging community.  I asked each blogger the same question-
What does creating a lovely home mean to you?
Here’s what Katy said…
hey everyone! i’m katy from scottyboy and katygirl and i’m so excited to visit heather’s blog today.
when she asked me why i enjoy making my home lovely, so many ideas flooded my mind.
i love to use decorating as an outlet for my creativity.
i love to put my ideas to use.
i love to make anyone who enters my house feel like they’re at home.
when she asked me why i enjoy making my home lovely, i also thought about how i sometimes feel like i have three strikes against me:
- i live in a rented house with a lot of things i would change if it was my own.
- this rented house is TINY, tiny, tiny.
- i am on a strict budget.
so with that being said, i have learned how to make my little rented house lovely by using my creativity so that when people walk into my house, they feel welcomed and at home. i love to make something out of nothing! buying something for $5 and making it look awesome makes me excited.
when you walk into my home, you see my little entry area first.

when i bought that little table from goodwill for $2, it was ugly and brown. i just slabbed some yellow paint on it and now it is my favorite piece of furniture in my home! i found the window at an antique store downtown and just strung some twine from it to hang special little pictures and cards. in the glass hurricane, i just folded some maps into paper airplanes. i think small details like these add so much lovely to an area.
on the opposite wall is my photo collage wall.

all i did was take a bunch of old frames that i found in my parents’ garage and painted a few of them. i kept some brown to off-set the color. i took an old mirror that i found in my grandma’s garage and took the mirror out and spray painted the frame green to match the candlestick on my yellow table.
then you walk into my living room and above my couch is my other collage wall. it is always a work in progress.

they are from all sorts of places on etsy and various stores. it is lovely how some of them say things that inspire. i keep changing it and adding to it. maybe in the future, i’ll have a bigger wall and will be able to expand on it.
one of my other favorite places in my living room is my buffet table. it was my grandma’s.

i found the crate and globe at one of my favorite little vintage stores in san luis obispo.
i think fresh flowers make a lovely world of difference so i always try to keep some in some spray painted bottles. and my husband made me the heart garland for valentine’s day and i just can’t part with it.

my son miles’ room is just down the hall. i went with a vintage toys theme.

i covered a lamp shade with vintage dick and jane fabric and added a mixture of pictures and prints for the wall. friends have bought him lots of little treasures along the way.

my master bedroom was the only room our landlord let us paint. so i went with a gray. i picked out some fabric to match the owl picture and had a friend whip me up some shams.

this room is the most lovely to me. i could daydream about what to add to it all the time. like i said before, i’m a sucker for the small details. like painted knobs and vintage frames. both less than $2 but both make a world of difference in this room!

i love the colors in this room. i love the little corner nook where my television cabinet is. the lampshade was a gift from anthropologie. the chandelier is fake (ha!). i just added some light bulbs to make it look real. it was on clearance and i spray painted it. i made the canvas by just modge podging old book pages and adding some paint. when this room is actually clean, i love to spend every minute in it that i can.
i am looking forward to the day when i can create a home that is actually mine. with my colors and my ideas and my touches in every little corner. but for now, this place is as lovely as it can be and i embrace it.
and most days, lovely looks a lot like this for me:

and i’ve learned to be perfectly okay with that.
thanks for visiting my home!
