Chalkboard Canvases

IMG_4246

Welcome to the world’s easiest chalkboard tutorial.

One ugly thrift store canvas + one bottle of chalkboard paint = pretty chalkboard art.

Just flip the canvas over and paint on the backside.

Messy edges or neat, it’s cute all the same.

I hope your week is off to a pretty start! xo

gifts for guys- guest post

Today I’m hanging out at Kojo Designs for their Gifts for Guys Series,
and sharing a handmade project I created for my little fisherman.
I hope you’ll come by and say hi.

About Those Doors

I’m so happy to know you guys love chalkboards as much as I do.
These doors in my kitchen…
chalkboard doors
came from this spot.
I took them down so I could create a puppet theater.

 About that curtain…

For the puppet theater curtain I used a $5 painter’s drop cloth, a tension rod,
and some thrifted seam binding.  I originally hung it using one of those rounded
curtain rods (the cheapo kind), but the kids kept banging into it because it stuck
out too far from the wall.  One of these days I’ll take the brackets down from it.

This built in cabinet/closet thing isn’t very useful for storage purposes because of its
semi-triangular shape, but it works great for this use.  Both kids fit in it with room to spare
and I’m able to store the puppets in a hanging basket that I attached to the wall inside.

It also makes a pretty great hiding spot, too.
it makes a good hiding spot too.
About those doors…
When Henry was just a little sprout I painted the inside of them with chalkboard paint
so that he could have a place to draw.  When I took them down to hang the curtain, I loved
the brass hinges and the beat up finish that they’d acquired way to much to just store them,
so I decided to hang them up.  I added 3 random pulls that had been collected from the
Anthro clearance table and Hobby Lobby’s 50% off sale in place of the original handles
and then we simply screwed the doors directly to the wall.

I love making good use of space and old treasures.
It’s sort of an addiction of mine.

A Foodie I am Not- A Recipe Link Up

I thought it was funny how many people thought I was kidding when I tweeted last week about actually making a dinner that was worth saving the leftovers from.  I wasn’t.

I am not good in the kitchen, but I never really had to be.  That was always my hubby’s thing.  He loves to cook and so he was the chef of the family, but with changes in his work schedule that responsibility has now been handed over to me.  Slowly I’ve been finding my footing in the kitchen (thanks to Betty Crocker) and along the way discovering how fun it is to create yummy healthy food my family wants to devour.

Now that I’m feeling a little braver I wondered if you had a recipe or two, or even ten, that you might want to share with me.  I’m looking for something that the whole family can eat.  Something that your family loves to eat.  Something that won’t intimidate this beginning cook.  Something that definitely wouldn’t be published in a  foodie magazine.  So what do you say…can you help a girl out???

It Just Keeps Growing

My summer craft list seems to grow a little longer everyday.
What projects are on your list?
